“Metro Rail – A Success Story of Bangladesh”: An Image Building Program arranged by Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi

Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Karachi, arranged an image building program titled: “Metro Rail – A Success Story of Bangladesh” at the Chancery Conference Hall on 28 December 2022 Success stories of Bangladesh in the socio-economic development were highlighted at the image building event by the Mission. On 28 December 2022, the day of inauguration of the first official journey of the newly constructed Metro Rail Line-6 (Uttara – Agargaon Segment) in Dhaka by Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, the program was arranged at the Chancery to celebrate a “Dream Journey” of Bangladesh towards development and to further develop Bangladesh’s image in Pakistan. Two videos were screened on the Dream Project of first-ever metro rail in Bangladesh.

 

 S. M. Mahbubul Alam, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Karachi, in his speech highlighted on various development initiatives and sectoral achievements in Bangladesh. He mentioned that Bangladesh has become a ‘Role Model’ of socio-economic development in the world. He mentioned that Bangladesh has constructed the 6.15-kilometer-long Padma Bridge by her own finance, which is a symbol of her pride and confidence. He further cited that the Bangabandhu Satellite -1 is the first-ever satellite of Bangladesh. The Bangabandhu Tunnel under the river Karnafuli is also the first-ever tunnel in Bangladesh as well as in the South Asia. Likewise, the Metro Rail is also a first-ever dreamy project in mass transport system of Bangladesh.

 

Deputy High Commissioner also apprised the audience that the Metro Rail will immensely contribute in the transport system in Dhaka, a mega city and one of the populous city in the world. He mentioned that the metro rail will transport around 60,000 passengers per hour and over 5,00,000 passengers a day. Deputy High Commissioner also mentioned that, Dhaka is the city which alone contributes to around 36% of Bangladesh’s national GDP. Around 20 million working hours are wasted in the traffic a day in Dhaka city. It is expected that the 129 kilometer long five metro rail system in Dhaka city will contribute to ease the extreme traffic congestions. Metro rail will also contribute for environment friendly, fast and modern transportation system in the Capital, a city with over 20 million people. It is also expected that directly or indirectly the metro rail system will significantly contribute to trade, business and after all the overall economy of the country.

 

Everyone present in the image building program at the Chancery titled: “Metro Rail – A Success Story of Bangladesh” was extremely happy to know about the development stories of Bangladesh. They also showed their enthusiasm about the dream Merto Rail System in Bangladesh. They very happily expressed their pride seeing and hearing the developments initiatives in Bangladesh.
