Chennai, India, 18 October 2023:

Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, Chennai has observed the ‘Sheikh Russel Dibosh-2023’ and the 60^th birthday of Shaheed Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 18 October 2023 with due respect and fervor. Various programs were chalked out to observe the day at the Chancery premises, as well as at The Clarke School for the Deaf, Chennai. The Clarke School for the Deaf, Chennai is a renowned school in India for specially abled children. Events at The Clarke School for the Deaf included sports competition, colorful cultural events, screening of documentaries on Shaheed Sheikh Russel followed by distribution of prizes among the winners of the said sports competition and refreshments.   

The observance at The Clarke School for the Deaf started with showcasing science projects, arts and crafts prepared by the students at the school. Mr. S.N. Srikanth, Secretary of the school accompanied the Deputy High Commissioner on this occasion. Later, in his welcome speech, Mr. S.N. Srikanth paid deep tribute to the memory of Shaheed Sheikh Russel. Prizes among the winners of the sports competition organized on 16 October 2023 on the occasion of ‘Sheikh Russel Dibosh-2023’ were distributed today.   

Mr. Shelley Salehin, Deputy High Commissioner in his remarks, paid deep homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the martyrs of 15^th August. He also highlighted on the life of Shaheed Sheikh Russel. He said the killers and the masterminds thought to have erased the contribution of the Father of the Nation and his family members, but his commitment, sacrifices, vision and love for the people are shining as ever showing the right path to the people of Bangladesh.

A special program was also held at the chancery premises. The Deputy High Commissioner paid deep homage to Shaheed Sheikh Russel by placing floral wreaths on his portrait. Later, Messages form Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minister on the eve of the ‘Sheikh Russel Dibosh-2023’ were read out followed by screening of short documentaries. This was followed by an open discussion. This segment of the day was wrapped up with special prayers."
