51st Victory Day of Bangladesh celebrated in Colombo

Bangladesh High Commission celebratedthe Glorious 51stVictory Day with due solemnity and fervortoday at the Chancery premises. The celebration commenced in the morning with the ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag by High Commissioner TareqMdAriful Islam. It was followed by observing one-minute silene, placing floral wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, offering special prayers, reading out of the messages of the Hon’ble President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs, screening documentary and an open discussion session.

 

Taking part in the discussion, officials of the High Commission renewed their pledge of working relentlessly for the country. The discussants recalled with gratitude the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs of liberation war and highlighted the importance and relevance of the Victory Day in the nation building. High Commissioner Islam in his remarks paid rich tribute to the Father of the Nationand reflected on his life and works. He highlighted the development strides of Bangladesh under dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He called upon all to take a fresh vow to work for the betterment of the country.

 

In the evening a cultural programme that followed featured patrioticsongs, dance, and recitation of poems performed by family members of the High Commission officials and members of Bangladesh community. The Victory Day celebration was attended by Bangladesh expatriate community members and few Sri Lankan dignitaries. The programme ended with cutting of cake and dinner where traditional Bangladesh cuisine was served.

 

As a part of the month-long celebration of the Victory Day the Mission will be launching on 21s December 2022 a Victory Cup cricket match between two reputed local schools. The Mission will also sponsor two community support programmes at Galle and Matara in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Scout Association on 23rd December 2022.
