China is willing to play constrictive role for resolving Rohingya crisis - Chinese Ambassador

Dhaka, 16.05.2019:

Ambassador of China to Bangladesh Zhang Zuo paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister A.K. Abdul Momen at his office today.

While appreciating Chinese humanitarian assistance for the displaced people of Rakhine State, Foreign Minister Dr. Momen sought China’s strong support so that Myanmar moves in the right direction for resolving Rohingya crisis. Ambassador Zhang asserted that China is willing to play constrictive role to realize repatriation of displaced people and will facilitate communication between Bangladesh and Myanmar to find a practical solution of the crisis.

Foreign Minister and Ambassador Zhang shared their concerns that protracted presence of Rohingyas in Bangladesh may disrupt the regional peace and stability as vested quarters are trying to radicalise the displaced people and therefore they underscored the need of early repatriation of the displaced people.

Chinese Ambassador deeply appreciated proactive engagement of Foreign Minister to promote bilateral relations to a newer height.  Ambassador Zhang underlined the importance of the bilateral consultation mechanisms to steer the practical cooperation between the two countries.

Foreign Minister also appreciated the fact that many bilateral instruments worth billions of dollar investment were signed during Xi Jinping’s visit to Bangladesh in 2016 when bilateral relationship was elevated to strategic partnership.
