Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, S. M. Mahbubul Alam had a call on the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh Mr. Agha Siraj Durrani at his office at the Assembly House in Karachi. Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh very warmly received the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh at the Sindh Assembly House.
During the meeting, the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh Mr. Agha Siraj Durrani recalled his visit to Bangladesh few years back to attend the “Speakers Conference” in Dhaka. He very thankfully remembered the warm hospitality extended towards him during his visit to Bangladesh. He also recalled his meeting with the Hon’ble President of Bangladesh. He also recalled his visits to Chattagram and Sylhet and highly appreciated the beauty and diversity of Bangladesh.
During the meeting the Deputy High Commissioner expressed his profound thanks and gratitude for the honor the Speaker Sindh extended to him and conveyed to the Speaker Sindh the greeting of the Government of Bangladesh and the Hon’ble Speaker of Bangladesh National Parliament. He also expressed deep sympathy to the affected people of Sindh and the rest of Pakistan by the recent devasting and unprecedented floods in Pakistan, which inundated almost one-third of the entire country.
During the meeting the Deputy High Commissioner S. M. Mahbubul Alam had the honor to brief the Speaker Sindh Provincial Assembly on various socio-economic achievements in Bangladesh. He said that Bangladesh has become a ‘Role Model’ of socio-economic development in the world and Bangladesh is currently among the five fastest growing economies in the world, ranking 41st in terms of GDP. He mentioned that Bangladesh has full filled all the criteria for the graduation to developing countries from the LDC status and has been confirmed to be graduated from the LDC in 2026. He also shared the vision that the present government of Bangladesh has been striving hard to implement “Vision-2041” to turn Bangladesh into an upper middle-income country by 2031 and a developed country by 2041 and building a prosperous and climate-resilient delta by 2100. He further briefed that the potential of trade and commerce and investment in Bangladesh is huge and Bangladesh Government has been working to establish 100 specialized economic zones across the country with foreign investment-friendly policies. He explained the Speaker Sindh that investors from Pakistan could invest in Bangladesh and import more items such as raw jute, tea, chemical fertilizer, garments, leather and lather products, plastic items, ceramic products, and pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh.
Deputy High Commissioner further briefed the Speaker Sindh that different delegations such as delegations from Federation of Pakistan of Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FPCCI), delegation from Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), delegation of 18-businesspersons, a delegation of Physicians, a sport delegation of Snookers, and other separate business delegations had visited Bangladesh in the recent months. Many small business delegation/individual business persons visit Bangladesh every month. The Speaker Sindh Provincial Assembly attached huge importance to the enhanced business-to-business contacts for mutual benefits of the countries.
The Governor Sindh highly appreciated the socio-economic developments in Bangladesh. He commented the development of Bangladesh is very impressive and is a learning story for other countries. The Speaker Sindh extended very warm greeting to the Government of Bangladesh and the brotherly people of Bangladesh and presented a memento to the Deputy High Commissioner. The Deputy High Commissioner had also extended sincere thanks and gratitude to the Speaker of Sindh Provincial Assembly for his warm hospitality, cordiality and greetings. He also presented the Speaker Sindh two books tiled: Unfinished Memoirs of the Father of the Nation and Bangabandhu: The People’s Hero.
