Hong Kong, 28 August 2022:
With the participation of fifty (50) new Bangladeshi students who have been admitted in different universities of Hong Kong in the academic year of 2022-23 and some young Bangladeshi graduates who have just started their career in various reputed private institutions, the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Hong Kong organized an interactive meeting on “Branding Bangladesh: Role of our students”. The participants shared their different ideas and thoughts with the Consul General, Ms. Israt Ara and other officers how they would like to promote Bangladesh in Hong Kong, Asia’s World City. While Bangladeshi youth who are born and brought up in Hong Kong shared their experiences about the previous image of Bangladesh in Hong Kong and suggested necessary guidance to new students, some new students expressed their interest to host cultural event, some would like to arrange performing arts or screening a Bangladeshi movie to portray a positive image of Bangladesh.
To highlight the glorious history, culture, tradition of Bangladesh and the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build the ‘Sonar Bangla’ and to project the present socio-economic development of Bangladesh under the able leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Consul General highly encouraged the students to play their role and assured all possible support from the Consulate in this regard. She also urged the students to be committed to increase the reputation of the country.It has been decided that a Student Association of Bangladesh would be formed and also a WhatsApp group so that all participants would be connected with the officials of the Consulate. The students would also try to organize programme by rotation in their respective universities targeting special events of Bangladesh. The Consul General thanked them for their participation and wished them success in the future.
At the end of the programme, the students were given a souvenir mask with a logo of Bangladesh. They were also entertained with Bangladeshi food. The participants thanked the Bangladesh Consulate for hosting the exchange meeting and reception.It may be mentioned that Hong Kong hosts various renowned and top-ranked universities of the world and each year, a good number of Bangladeshi students get admission in various disciplines e.g. Engineering, Bio-medicine, BBA, Economics etc.
