Bhutanese Prime Minister arrives in Dhaka

Dhaka, 12 April 2019

Dr. Lotay Tshering, the Prime Minister of Bhutan arrived in Dhaka this morning on a 3-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Bhutanese premier, leading a 20 member high powered delegation, was received by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the VVIP tarmac of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport airport and was accorded a 19-Gun Salute. Soon after his arrival, the visiting prime minister paid his respects at the National Martyrs’ Memorial at Savar and the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum.

The two Prime Ministers will hold official talks tomorrow. It is expected that 5 Memoranda of Understanding will be signed by both sides paving the way for strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the areas of health, agriculture, shipping, tourism and public administration training. Later in the day, he will call on the Hon’ble President and join a banquet hosted in his honour by Bangladesh Prime Minister.

On 14 April, Bhutanese Prime Minister will join the Pohela Boishakh celebrations at a cultural event at BICC in Dhaka. Later, the dignitary will visit his alma mater Mymensingh Medical College and meet with the students and faculty there. Bhutan being a member of BIMSTEC, the premier will visit the BIMSTEC Secretariat in Dhaka. He will also participate with his business delegation in an interaction session with FBCCI and other stakeholders where the Bangladesh Commerce Minister, Private Industry and Investment Advisor to Prime Minister and State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources will be present. His packed schedule includes calls on by the Bangladesh Foreign Minister, Health Minister, Shipping Minister and Commerce Minister.
