45th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations: Bangladesh and China want to take strategic partnership to new heights

President Md. Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister A.K. Abdul Momen exchanged messages of felicitation with their Chinese counterparts  – President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Keqiang and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

On this occasion, President Md. Abdul Hamid wished the friendly people of China peace, progress and continued prosperity and expressed confidence that the existing cordial ties between the two countries would be further strengthened in the days to come. President Xi reciprocated the sentiments and said that China and Bangladesh had always been respecting each other on an equal footing, strengthening mutual trust and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation. He expressed his willingness to elevate China-Bangladesh strategic partnership to new heights.

Referring to the excellent bilateral relations and noting China as one of the most valued partners for Bangladesh’s socio-economic development, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasinahoped to explore more avenues for furthering cooperation to take Bangladesh-China strategic partnership to a higher level and also work together to address the regional and global issues for peace, security, stability and development. She also appreciated the cooperation and assistance by China during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.The Prime Ministerrecalled the long history of interaction between the two peoples of the two ancient civilisationswhich facilitated the flow of knowledge, culture and trade. She mentioned that the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his books theUnfinished Memoir and theAmar DekhaNayachin highly appreciated the passion, commitment and nation building efforts of the Chinese people.

Foreign Minister A.K. Abdul Momen in a message to his counterpart invited China to take proactive initiatives so that Myanmar started the process of repatriation of her 1.1 million displaced nationals now temporarily sheltered in Bangladesh.
