Bangladesh High Commission, Mauritius celebrates Digital Bangladesh Day 2022

Bangladesh High Commission, Mauritius celebrated Digital Bangladesh Day 2022 on 12 December, 2022 with due solemnity and fervour. On this occasion, the High Commission has arranged an in-house program. At the beginning, prayer was offered in memory of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members, who were martyred along with him on 15 August, 1975. Essay writing, painting competition based on the success of Digital Bangladesh were arranged. Children from Bangladesh community participated spontaneously. In her speech, H.E. High Commissioner Ms. Rezina Ahmed first paid homage to the memory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Digital Bangladesh was one of the major steps to reach out the benefits at the door steps of the people, the whole world now recognizes Bangladesh as a role model of development for the initiatives taken by his capable daughter Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. We should acknowledge the contributions of Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Prime Minister’s ICT Adviser, who has made remarkable changes to the development of youth leadership in Bangladesh, showing their dreams, their employment, inspiring youth to build entrepreneurship, assisting in technological development, industrialization and research.

 

Ms. Ahmed also mentioned the Digital Bangladesh 2021 vision focused on improving service delivery using ICTs, capacity development of the whole society towards a knowledge economy, and the diversification of exports towards knowledge products. In the last 13 years, about 100 times more Bangladeshis are able to take advantage of the internet for information, education, recreation, business, and trade. It was not possible to think that anybody below the middle class could have mobile phones about two decades back. Nobody could have predicted it in 2008/09, but the Digital Bangladesh vision, and the government, private sector, and citizens believing in Digital Bangladesh, transformed this vision into a reality today.

 

The High Commissioner said, “We are working with self-confidence and devotion to attain the goals, set by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Vision-2041 in order to fulfill the dream of the Father of the Nation for a poverty free, self-reliant Bangladesh, Shonar Bangla (Golden Bangla)”. She added that children are the future of Bangladesh and they are one of the major beneficiaries of today’s Digital Bangladesh.

 

The High Commissioner along with other officers, officials and the Bangladeshi expatriates, present in this celebration.
