The Embassy’s observance of the 47th Martyrdom Anniversary of our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day

Bahrain, 15 August 2022:

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Manama, Bahrain observed the 47th Martyrdom Anniversary of our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day at the Embassy premises today at 9:00 am local time with great reverence, dignity, and solemnity. The event commenced with the Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. of the Embassy, Mr. A.K.M. Mohiuddin Kayes, paying his deepest tribute to Bangabandhu and his martyred family members by hoisting the national flag at half-mast and laying a wreath of flowers under his portrait in the presence of Embassy officials as well as members of the Bangladeshi expatriates’ community. The event then featured recitation from the Holy Quran followed by observing a minute of silence for the untimely demise of Bangabandhu and his dear family members who were all brutally assassinated on this day in 1975. Afterwards, messages from the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister, and the Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs on this doleful occasion were read out to the audience. A video documentary that concisely highlighted Bangabandhu’s life, struggles, contributions, accomplishments, and his assassination was screened as well.

The CDA, a.i., Mr. Mohiuddin Kayes began his speech by paying deep tribute to our great Father of the Nation as well as his martyred family members, and then with profound respect, he spoke about the key moments of Bangabandhu’s life, particularly how he will always be a role model for all Bangladeshis by talking about his ideals, beliefs, feelings of intense patriotism and democratic values. He said that Bangabandhu became the undisputed leader of Bengalis of all castes and religions by inspiring everyone with his unique personality, individualistic traits, love for his country and its people, and his ultimate sacrifice for the Bengali nation.

Mr. Kayes also proudly expressed his great admiration and reverence for Bangabandhu’s complete dedication and involvement in reconstructing a war-ravaged country and laying down the foundations of his “Sonar Bangla” (Golden Bengal) by accomplishing great many things in just three and a half years after the country’s independence. He further stated how his worthy daughter, the current Hon'ble Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina has been closely following his footsteps and working tirelessly to transform Bangladesh into a fully developed nation by 2041 – a nation free of hunger, poverty, and discrimination. In this regard, he called upon the Bangladeshi expatriates’ community in Bahrain to send remittances through legitimate channels to keep the nation’s economy soaring.

As Bangabandhu and his family members were mercilessly shot down on this day, Mr. Kayes asserted that his imperishable spirit and ideals will remain alive from generation to generation. He then concluded his speech by urging the Bangladeshi community in Bahrain to put aside their differences and work together in realizing Bangabandhu's dream of building a “Sonar Bangla” by embracing his ideals and principles to work towards the betterment of our nation, thereby allowing the teachings of our visionary leader and great architect of independence to live on forever in our hearts and minds.

The event came to an end with a special prayer for the salvation of the martyred souls of Bangabandhu and his dear family members, and for the continued peace and prosperity of the nation. All invited guests were entertained with lunch and refreshments comprised entirely of traditional Bangladeshi dishes.
