Karachi, 12 December 2022:

Commissioner Karachi Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Memon very warmly received Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, S. M. Mahbubul Alam at the Office of the Karachi Commissioner on 12 December 2022.

During the meeting with the Commissioner Karachi, the Deputy High Commissioner S. M. Mahbubul Alam highlighted on various socio-economic achievements in Bangladesh. He said that Bangladesh has become a ‘Role Model’ of socio-economic development in the world. Primary enrolment is over 98% and per capita income US$2,824. He categorically mentioned that Bangladesh is currently among the five fastest growing economies in the world, ranking 41st in terms of GDP. He also shared the vision that the present government of Bangladesh has been striving hard to turn Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041.

The Deputy High Commissioner elaborately described about the potential of trade and commerce and investment in Bangladesh. He requested that the Businesspersons from Pakistan could import more products and items such as raw jute and jute products, tea, chemical fertilizer, garments, leather and lather products, and pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh. He further emphasized that the potential investors and entrepreneurs from Pakistan could avail the exclusive facilities and incentives for investment in Bangladesh.

Commissioner Karachi Mr. Iqbal Memon highly appreciated the impressive socio-economic developments of Bangladesh. He was very keen to know about policies Bangladesh adopted and initiatives undertaken for the success stories in vital areas such as women education, primary enrolment, women empowerment, disaster management, family planning, social safety nets, health care services in the rural and urban areas such as mega metropolitan areas such as Dhaka City Corporation, and so forth. Listening to the Deputy High Commissioner, the Commissioner Karachi was very impressed on the achievements and the dynamic and effective policies of Bangladesh in different issue areas.   

Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Karachi S. M. Mahbubul Alam assured the Commissioner Karachi and through him to the Business people of Karachi of all possible cooperation from the Mission. The Commissioner Karachi also assured of full support towards the Deputy High Commissioner during his stay in Karachi. At the end the meeting, they exchanged gifts and souvenirs and the Deputy High Commissioner also presented the Commissioner Karachi a publication titled: Bangabandhu: The People’s Hero.
