The Consulate General of Bangladesh in Sydney solemnly observed the 48th Martyrdom Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day-2023 with reverence and a sense of profound significance. The day-long event, organized by the Consulate General of Bangladesh, was marked by various commemorative activities and reflections on the indomitable spirit of Bangabandhu and his role in shaping Bangladesh's destiny.
The day began with the half-masting of the national flag in the early morning. The Consul General, along with the consulate officials, paid tribute by placing floral wreaths at the portrait of the architect of the independence, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, as a mark of respect for his extraordinary contribution to our nation's liberation. The evening session commenced recitation of verses from the Holy Scriptures. This was followed by a minute of silence, paying tribute to the memory of the Father of the Nation and all those who sacrificed their lives on the fateful night of August 15. The messages sent by the national leaders were read out to the audience as well as a video documentary was screened on the life and achievements of Bangabandhu. Later, the Consul General delivered his welcome remarks on the day’s significance.
In his speech, the Consul General underscored the significance of August as a month of solemnity and remembrance, paying profound tribute to the legacy of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the martyrs of August 15, including his family members. He emphasized that Bangabandhu's vision transcended national boundaries, advocating for the rights and liberation of oppressed individuals globally. The Consul General urged unity in fulfilling Bangabandhu's dream of a prosperous and equitable 'Sonar Bangla.'
In the end, special prayers were offered for the forgiveness and salvation of the departed souls of the martyrs of August 15.
Later, members of the Bangladeshi community in Sydney recited poems in honour of Bangabandhu, reflecting their deep cultural connection and reverence for his memory.
Eminent personalities from the Bangladeshi community gathered at the event, offering their heartfelt homage to the enduring legacy of Bangabandhu.
