The Bangladesh High Commission in Port Louis celebrated the 74th Birth Anniversary of the Valiant Freedom Fighter Shahid Captain Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in a befitting manner. Highlighting the importance of sports and creative activities for the healthy growth of specially-abled children, the High Commission distributed sports equipment among 15 specially-abled children. The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Mauritius Mrs. Rezina Ahmed presided over the occasion. Mr. M Ali Jookhun, Chairman of the African Down’s Syndrome Network and a world-known champion of disable’s rights attended the event as the special guest.
At the outset, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Mauritius Mrs. Rezina Ahmed paid floral tribute at the portrait of valiant freedom fighter Shahid Captain Sheikh Kamal. Specially-abled children, their parents, and mission officials accompanied her during the time. Afterward, messages of the Hon’ble President and the Hon’ble Prime Minister were read out to the audience. In her remarks, the High Commissioner paid her deepest tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and all the martyrs of 15 August 1975. She highlighted the contributions of Valiant Freedom Fighter Shahid Captain Sheikh Kamal in the fields of sports and culture. She stressed on informing the youth in Mauritius about the legacy of Shahid Captain Sheikh Kamal so that they could be inspired. She also said that Valiant Freedom Fighter Shahid Captain Sheikh Kamal will remain as a youth icon for the next generation of Bangladeshis. The special guest Mr. M Ali Jookhun also spoke on the occasion.
The High Commissioner concluded the program by distributing sports equipment among the specially-abled children, which was the most jubilant part of the program as far as the specially-abled children were concerned. Later, guests were served with lunch.
