Mr. Faruk Khan, MP, Chairof the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh seeks support of Prime Minister Hun Sen for early and safe repatriation of Rohingyas during his meeting with Cambodian Prime Ministerin Phnom Penh

 

06 January 2020, Phnom Penh:

Mr. Muhammad Faruk Khan, MP, Chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh during his official visit to Cambodia met the Prime Minister of Cambodia SamdechAkkaMohaSenaPakdeiTecho Hun Sen at Peace Palace (the office of prime minister) in Phnom Penh this afternoon to form opinion for early repatriation of the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals temporarily sheltered in Bangladesh..

Highlighting the humanitarian gesture of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Faruk Khan briefed the 4-ponit policy direction of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to Prime Minister Hun Sen and sought support from Cambodia,an important member country of ASEAN, for early, safe and sustainable repatriation of Rohingya people.He also highlighted the negative consequence of the prolong stay of these Rohingya people in Bangladesh and the ASEAN countries and beyond. Prime Minister Hun Sen expected a peaceful solution of the Rohingya crisis.He also mentioned that mutual naming of road in Phnom Pen and Dhaka after the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Late King Father of Cambodia Norodom Sihanouk would strengthen bilateral relationship. They also discussed other bilateral issues including trade, agriculture, tourism etc.Addressing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as his elder sister, Prime Minister Hun Sen referred to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Cambodia in December 2017 and his visit to Bangladesh in June 2014 and mentioned that these two visits have taken the bilateral relations to a new height.

Mr. Faruk Khan, MP, has mentioned that Bangladesh would organize events in Cambodia during Mujib Year from March 2020 to March 2021, the Birth Centenary of Father of the Nation of Bangladesh so that the people of Cambodia may learn more about the glorious life of the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh.

Earlier this morningMr. Faruk Khan MP and the delegation met with the Hon’ble President of the Senate, Hon’ble First Vice President of the National Assembly and attended a working meeting with the Hon’ble Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly of Cambodia. In all meetings, Mr. Faruk Khan urged the Cambodian leaders to put pressure on Myanmar so that Myanmar takes their residents back.

Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh Mr. Golam Faruk Khandakar Prince, MP, Mr. Md. Abdul Majid Khan, MP, Mr. Nahim Razzaq, MP, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Cambodia resident in Bangkok Mr. Md. Nazmul Quaunine, and high officials from Cambodian Governmentwere also present in the meetings. Hon’ble  Farukh Khan, MP and delegation membersmet with the Bangladesh Community members living in Cambodia yesterday evening in Phnom Penh.
