Bangladesh Consulate General in Sydney commemorated the 51st anniversary of the Great Victory with a day-long celebration. In the morning, the day began with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag on the lush green lawn of Bangladesh House. Later, the Consul General along with all embassy officials laid wreaths at the bust of Bangabandhu installed at Western Sydney University in Sydney.
In the afternoon, a discussion and cultural program was organized at the mission to mark the importance and significance of Victory Day. A minute silence was first observed to pay respect to the memory of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the four national leaders and the martyrs of the great liberation war. Consul General Md Shakhawat Hossain then delivered a short statement about the significance of the day.
Paying deep homage to the Father of the Nation and all those who contributed to the victory of Bangladesh, the Consul General emphasized on the significance of building the country in the spirit of the liberation war. Highlighting the remarkable socioeconomic progress of Bangladesh over the past fifty years, he stated that success has been achieved in all indicators of development, including the empowerment of women, reduction in poverty rate, increase in average life expectancy, reduction in poverty rate, increase in average life expectancy, achieving self-sufficiency in food, providing homes to the homeless. He urged everyone to work collaboratively to advance the country under the able leadership of Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
A fascinating cultural program was organized following the discussion programme. The local artists that performed at this cultural event mesmerized the audience with their enthralling performance that include patriotic songs, dance, and recitations of poetry.
At the conclusion of the cultural programme, the Consul General greeted the valiant freedom fighters in attendance with flowers and thanked them for their outstanding contribution to the liberation war.
