Asian University for Women Students had a meeting with the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Karachi S. M. Mahbubul Alam on 2 January 2023 at the Chancery.
The students of the Asian University for Women from Pakistan had a meeting at the Chancery. During the meeting, Deputy High Commissioner welcomed the Pakistani women students at his office who have been studying in Asian University for Women (AUW) in Bangladesh. He mentioned that the Government of Bangladesh has granted 140 Acres of land for the permanent campus of the Asian University for Women. He also added that Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone on 11 April 2011 at the site of its permanent campus in Pahartoli, Chottagram. He added that the women students studying at the AUW are from across the globe particularly from the South Asian and the South East Asian countries and beyond namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Syria, Timore Leste, Vietnam, and Yemen.
Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Karachi mentioned that Bangladesh has made impressive progress in women empowerment and gender equality. He also highlighted that Bangladesh has remarkable achievements in women education. He cited that according to WEF, Bangladesh is ranked seventh in the world in terms of political empowerment of women. He also added that the girls’ education is free up to graduation level in Bangladesh. He gratefully mentioned the immense contribution of women in national economy of Bangladesh particularly in the RMG Sector, which is the 2nd in the world in terms of export. He also mentioned that women from Bangladesh armed forces and Bangladesh Police have been remarkably contributing in the UN Peace-Building and Peacekeeping Operations. Deputy High Commission briefed on different policies of Bangladesh’s government for the women’s enlightenment, education, and empowerment. He mentioned that Bangladesh has been working hard to ensure and protect all the rights for women in all spheres of life with an inclusive and integral strategy for a knowledge-based nation. He expressed his optimism that no one will be left behind in the development journey of Bangladesh. Deputy High Commissioner mentioned that the present government has been striving to turn Bangladesh into a knowledge-based developed country and smart Bangladesh by 2041.
Deputy High Commissioner S. M. Mahbubul Alam assured the students of the Asian University for Women (AUW) to all possible cooperation from the Bangladesh Mission in Karachi. First Secretary Mr. Mohammad Atiqur Rahman was also present during the discussion. Deputy High Commissioner also presented the students of the Asian University for Women in Bangladesh with gifts and souvenirs.
