Bangladesh as the current Chair of Platform on Disaster Displacement’ in collaboration with IOM and PDD is organizing the ‘Annual Thematic Meeting of the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD) on 24 February 2019 at the Hotel InterContinental Dhaka.

Bangladesh as the current Chair of Platform on Disaster Displacement’ in collaboration with IOM and PDD is organizing the ‘Annual Thematic Meeting of the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD) on 24 February 2019 at the Hotel InterContinental Dhaka.

 

Hon’ble Foreign Minister H.E. Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen, MP will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. Md. Nojibur Rahman, Principal Secretary to the Hon’ble Prime Minister will be the Guest of Honour. Mr. Md. Shah Kamal, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief will be the Special Guest. Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs H.E. Mr. Shahrial Alam, MP and Hon’ble State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief H.E. Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman, MP would grace the concluding ceremony with their presence. Mr. Md. Shahidul Haque, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be chairing the meeting. More than hundred participants representing governments of the Steering Group of the Platform on Disaster Displacement, participants from other governments as well as representatives from regional and international organizations, UN Agencies, civil society organizations and research institutions will convene in Dhaka, Bangladesh  on 24-25 February 2019  for the Annual Thematic Meeting of the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD) on the theme “Striving together for addressing displacement due to slow and sudden-onset disasters”.

 

The thematic meeting will explore issues related to human mobility (displacement, migration and planned relocation) in the context of both sudden-onset disasters (like tropical cyclones, tidal bore, tsunami, earthquake, landslide, volcanic eruption etc.) and slow-onset events and processes (like sea level rise, river erosion, salinity, flood, drought, etc.), many of which are inter-related and are results of environmental degradation due to climate change. The meeting will also discuss how protection can be best ensured for displaced persons and persons at risk of displacement including through effective disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in national, regional and international levels.
