Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Karachi arrange a program on the International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2023 to showcase Bangladesh’s success in the Global Peace.
A video on the Bangladesh’s UN Peacekeepers was screened. With the anchorage of First Secretary Mr. Arif Elahee a discussion was also arranged to highlight the role and achievements of Bangladesh’s UN Peacekeepers across the world.
At the outset of his speech, the Deputy High Commissioner S. M. Mahbubul Alam paid his profound tributes to the memory of the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He also paid rich tributes to three million all the martyrs, who have sacrificed their lives for the Independence of Bangladesh in 1971.
Deputy High Commissioner mentioned that Bangladesh has been pursuing the foreign policy of “Friendship to all and malice towards none” since her Independence in 1971 as was postulated by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which continues to provide the philosophical underpinning of Bangladesh’s pro-peace foreign policy. Father of the Nation propounded the peace and development-centric foreign policy, which remains the guiding principle of Bangladesh’s diplomatic engagements today. In 1973 Father of the National was awarded the prestigious Julio-Curie Peace Prize.
Deputy High Commissioner S. M. Mahbubul Alam mentioned that Bangladesh is the proponent of the resolution of ‘Culture of Peace’ in the UN. Currently Bangladesh is the 1st in terms of number of contributing the UN Peacekeepers. He sited that Bangladesh has successfully completed 55 Peace Keeping Operations (Missions) under the mandates of the United Nations in around 40 countries, where 146,095 peacekeepers from Bangladesh have taken part. He further mentioned that women peacekeepers and Bangladesh Police also have been contributing the UN peacekeeping operations. Paying rich tributes to those Bangladesh peacekeepers in the UN peacekeeping operations who have sacrificed their lives for the causes of global peace and security, the Deputy High Commissioner mentioned that Bangladesh peacekeepers in the UN have been hugely contributing in the image building of Bangladesh through their most professional services to the UN Peacekeeping operations across the globe.
Deputy High Commissioner mentioned that Bangladesh and the people of Bangladesh are peace-loving. Following the foot-steps of the Father of the nation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also been pursuing the peace-loving development centric and widely engaging foreign policy. The Government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has provided temporary shelter to over 1.1 million Rohingya of Myanmar nationality, which is an extraordinary example of humanitarian stand of the peace-loving people and the government of Bangladesh.
