In the month of October 2023, total 1,475 fire incidents occur in various parts of the country, which caused 10 deaths and 27 burn injuries. Among them, 163 fire incidents occurred in Dhaka City Corporation area. Statistics show that every day more than five fire events are happening in Dhaka and most of them are in Mirpur area. This information has been informed in a press release sent by Fire Service and Civil Defense Media Cell on Tuesday (07 November 2023).

It is informed that out of the total 1,475 fire incidents across the country in October 2023, 501 occurred in Dhaka Division, 55 in Mymensingh Division, 239 in Chattogram Division, 213 in Rajshahi Division, 149 in Khulna Division, 59 in Sylhet Division, 66 in Barishal Division and 193 in Rangpur Division. Monthly statistics show that the number of fires has decreased from September to October. Last month, 1,557 fire incidents occurred across the country.

Among them, 15 people were injured and 3 people died in 163 fire incidents in Dhaka City Corporation area. According to the statistics, Mirpur (22) of the capital has the highest number of fire incidents. Besides this, Mohammadpur 13, Demra 9, Tejgaon 12, Baridhara 9, Uttara 10 and Postagola had 10 fire incidents.

It was also informed that in the month of October, fire service and civil defense participated in rescue operations in 846 different types of accidents across the country. Out of which 690 were road accidents. During that time 830 people were injured and 167 people died. Apart from this, there were 39 accidents from kitchen gas cylinder, 13 from faulty gas line, 21 due to elevator accidents, 3 from lightning, 58 accidents happened from water drowning in rivers. 38 people died due to drowning in rivers, ponds or water across the country.  

In Dhaka City Corporation area alone 8 people were killed and 7 were injured from 44 various accidents. Besides, 193 accidents occurred in Dhaka Division, 47 in Mymensingh Division, 120 in Chattogram Division, 222 in Rajshahi Division, 96 in Khulna Division, 35 in Sylhet Division, 40 in Barishal Division and 93 in Rangpur Division respectively.

Fire Service and Civil Defense also notified that in the month of October, fire service and civil defense provided services all over the country by attending 4,817 calls to fire and various accidents. Also 1,164 patients were transported by  ambulance services through 1139 calls.
