Book launching Ceremony of Bangabandhu's "Unfinished Memoirs" in Thai language at the renowned Chulalongkorn University, Thailand

 

Bangkok, 25 August 2022:

 

As part of the celebration of the golden jubilee of the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Thailand, the South Asia Study Center of Chulalongkorn University, one of the esteemed educational institutions of Thailand, and the Embassy of Bangladesh, Bangkok jointly organized the Book launching Ceremony of the Thai version of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s ""Unfinished Memoirs" ".  Hon’ble Trustee of Center for Research and Information (CRI), Dhaka, Bangladesh Mr. Radwan Mujib Siddiq, and the grandson of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the Chief Guest in this event.

 

Prof. Narin Hiransuthikul, Vice President of the Chulalongkorn University and Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand H.E  Mohammed Abdul Hye welcomed the Chief Guest. The event commenced with the welcome address of the Vice President of the University. He said that Bangabandhu's ""Unfinished Memoirs" " is a unique document which not only depicts the history of the birth of a nation but is also written by the man himself who created history and brought freedom to his countrymen. Then a documentary based on the life of Bangabandhu was screened.

 

During the ceremony, the head of the Thai translation team Assistant Professor Dr. Jirayudh Sinthuphan, Director of South Asia Study Center of Chulalongkorn University presented the introductory speech. He specifically mentioned that this translation is not just a literal translation of a book, it is an unprecedented manifestation of Bangabandhu's thoughts, philosophy, feelings and emotions. Then the English translator of "Unfinished Memoirs" Dr. Fakrul Alam, Professor, Department of English, Dhaka University and Dr. Surat Horachaikul, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University took part in a panel discussion. The panel discussants highlighted Bangabandhu's life, philosophy and his contribution as a great world leader as depicted in the book. They expressed hope that the Thai translation of the book would help Thai readers to get to know Bangabandhu in depth. At this stage of the program, the Chief Guest Mr. Radwan Mujib Siddiq along with other guests unveiled the cover of the book.

 

On this auspicious occasion, a special video message from Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, M.P. the Hon’ble Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh was screened. He mentioned the event as a noteworthy part of the golden jubilee celebration of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Thailand. He said that Bangabandhu’s message of peace is the main dictum of Bangladesh's foreign policy - 'friendship to all, malice towards none'. He appreciated the initive of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Bangkok for the publication of  the"Unfinished Memoirs" in Thai.

 

The Chief Guest of the program Mr. Radwan Mujib Siddiq said that Bangabandhu worked for the people of the country throughout his life. He said that it is not possible to know Bangladesh without knowing Bangabandhu. This book has provided with an excellent opportunity for the present day youth to know the history of Bangladesh through the eyes of the leader who brought independence to his people. Therefore, this translation will help the Thai readers to know Bangabandhu and Bangladesh together. He also thanked the Embassy in Bangkok and the South Asia Study Center of Chulalongkorn University for such an initiative.

 

Ambassador Mohammed Abdul Hye in his closing remarks paid deep respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He hoped that the translation of the "Unfinished Memoirs"  will make a special contribution to conveying Bangabandhu's political ideology, and his philosophy of life to the Thai readers. He expressed sincere thanks to the Bangabandhu Memorial Trust of Bangladesh for all the support for the translation of the book and to all those involved in the translation and publication of the book at the South Asia Study Center of Chulalongkorn University.

 

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, officials of other local embassies, invited teachers-students from Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University and other educational institutions, Bangladeshi students studying in various universities in Thailand were present at the event. The book can be purchased at various bookshops in Thailand and online through the website of Chulalongkorn University Press.
