Foreign Secretary emphasizes on boosting trade cooperation between Bangladesh and Slovenia

Dhaka, 19 June 2022

On 19 June 2022, a delegation from the Slovenian Koper Port and officials from the BGMEA have paid a courtesy call to the Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Officers from the International Trade, Investment and Technology and ICT Wing of the Ministry attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Foreign Secretary mentioned that Bangladesh has friendly relation with Slovenia and Slovenia is a promising market for Bangladeshi garments, footwear, pharmaceuticals, and ICT products. He also highlighted that the Chattogram Port and the Koper Port can share their experiences, prior knowledges, and development ambitions as regional and trans-regional growth cubicles. Bangladesh is a leading ready-made garments (RMG) exporter in Europe and through the cooperation between the Bangladesh’s ports and the Koper port, Bangladesh can be able to export IT products, software, and IT expert. Another area could be an interlocking of freezones with the Koper free zone. The Foreign Secretary also expressed that the most important area for cooperation between the two ports can be concentric to designing a seamless interfacing for cargo, passenger, and worker manifests so that transcontinental shipment, transshipment, finance, and guarantee mechanisms can be recognized and inter-operated between the two ports.

The delegations from the Koper Port and the BGMEA presented the area of possible cooperation between Koper Port and Bangladesh’s port. Foreign Secretary thanked the delegations and stated that Foreign Ministry will extend all possible cooperation in this regard.
