A program was held at the Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei to commemorate the historic speech of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered on 07 March 1971 at Ramna Race Course. The program was joined mainly by the Bangladesh community members, Ambassadors of India, Russia, and Vietnam, Deputy Head of Mission of Lao PDR, and a few Bruneian students. The program started with hoisting of National Flag, and continued with recital from the Holy Quran and placing floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu. The Bangladesh High Commissioner Mrs Nahida Rahman Shumona read out messages from the Hon’ble President and the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh on this auspicious occasion. A documentary was screened to enlighten the audience about the everlasting power and impact of the incendiary speech of Bangabandhu delivered on 07 March 1971. Bangladesh High Commissioner attributed the nation’s eventual attainment of Independence entirely to the charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu whose fearless attitude and breathtaking speech on 07 March 1971 was one of the defining moments in the history of independence of Bangladesh. The Indian High Commissioner His Excellency Mr. Alok Amitabh Dimri expressed his sincere gratitude to Bangabandhu and appreciated the decision of UNESCO to include this historic speech of Bangabandhu in the Memory of the World International Register, a list of world’s important documentary heritage maintained by UNESCO. The Russian Ambassador His Excellency Mr. Mikhail Baranov and the Ambassador of Vietnam His Excellency Mr. Tran Van Khoa also shared their respective views on this auspicious occasion. Mr. Nuruzzaman recited a poem written by himself on this historic speech of Bangabandhu, and another Bangladesh community member Mr. AKM Jashim Uddin shared his profound love and respect for the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The students form the Department of Communication, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) expressed their positive feelings and acknowledged the benefit of learning and knowing the significance and power of the speech of a visionary leader who called upon the crowd numbering around one million and hungry for independence, to brace themselves for the war of liberation, the one and only path to independence. Head of Administration and Management, Division of Language and Literature Bureau, Dayang Hajah Annisa binti Haji Moksin was also present and enjoyed the program.
