Bangladesh lodges strong protest over the death and injuries of Bangladeshi Nationals from falling of mortar shell and bullets from Myanmar

Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Myanmar Ambassador to Bangladesh H.E. U Aung Kyaw Moe and strongly protested the incidents of the firing of bullets and mortar shells from Myanmar that caused human fatalities, affected the safety and security of the people and property of Bangladesh.

 

Director General of Myanmar Wing handed over the protest note to Myanmar Ambassador at the State Guest House Padma. Bangladesh urged the Government of Myanmar to take all measures to stop any unacceptable situation that might cause casualties of life and properties in Bangladesh. Bangladesh accentuated its position not to allow any further infiltration of displaced persons from Rakhine and alerted so no air space violations take place as their Air Force is operating regular operations in proximity of bordering areas.

 

The Ambassador was further reminded that safety and security in Rakhine State is of prime concern of the prospective returnees and the Myanmar Government should take necessary measures to improve the situation to commence repatriation at a suitable time. Referring to the BGP (Border Guard Police) personnel of Myanmar sheltering in Bangladesh since 4 February 2024, Bangladesh urged to take immediate measures to repatriate them. Bangladesh's policy of peaceful resolution of all issues was also underscored.

 

In response, the Ambassador of Myanmar assured to urgently communicate the grave concerns of Bangladesh to their authorities. He also reiterated his government’s position to take their Border Guard Police back at the earliest in coordination with the authorities of Bangladesh.
