Farewell call on Hon’ble Foreign Minister by the non-resident Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina on 7 August ‘18

Dr. Sabit Subasic, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Bangladesh with residence in New Delhi paid a farewell call on Mr. Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, MP, Foreign Minister on 07 August 2018 at latter’s office. The Ambassador was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Bangladesh. Director-General (East Europe and CIS) of the Ministery of Foreign Afffairs also attended the meeting.

The Foreign Minister expressed happiness at the extent of excellent friendly relations and bilateral engagements between Bangladesh and Bosnia and Herzegovina. He informed the Ambassador that Bangladesh is now on a high-trajectory of economic growth and social development. The Foreign Minister highlighted the conditions in which Rohingya people of Myanmar has been given shelter in Bangladesh in a sheer number and the continuous effort of the government to provide them with humanitarian support and ensure their repatriation to their homeland in a safe, secure and orderly manner. He expressed high appreciation and gratitude for the support by Bosnia and Herzegovina to the resolution concerning the situation of Human Rights in Myanmar, especially that of Rohingyas at the United Nations. He hoped that Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to extend its whole-hearted support at the UN and other international fora concerning the Rohingya crisis and the need of their early repatriation.

The Foreign Minister mentioned that given Bangladesh’s rapid economic growth and opportunities, China, Japan, USA and many countries of Europe are making significant investments in Bangladesh. He referred, in this connection, to the government plans for establishment of 100 Specialised Economic Zones (EZ) to attract foreign investment.

Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina echoed the excellent brotherly relations maintained by the two countries. He highlighted and praised the current democratic system existing in Bangladesh, particularly the development and strengthening of institutions and stakeholders. He recalled the support and assistance of Bangladesh extended to Bosnia and Herzegovina and in this regard, mentioned the outstanding role played by the Bangladesh peacekeepers, who participated in UNPROFOR in large numbers. In this context, he noted the publication of a book authored by a member of Bangladeshi peacekeepers. With regard to Rohingya issue, the Ambassador assured of continuous support by the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
