British Secretary of State for International Development calls on State Minister for Foreign Affairs

British Secretary of State for International Development (DFID Minister) Penny Mordaunt MP called on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam MP at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday.
British Minister for International Development Penny Mordaunt praised the role of Bangladesh government in dealing the Rohingya crisis and appreciated the generous approach of Bangladeshi people towards the Rohingya people. State Minister Md. Shahriar Alam conveyed that the decision taken by Bangladesh is entirely based on humanitarian ground. He also appreciated the active role of the UK government in mounting pressure on Myanmar Government on Rohingya issue. He also thanked the UK government particularly DFID for extending humanitarian assistance to the forcefully displaced Myanmar nationals who took shelter in Bangladesh (Till date UK government has promised £ 47 Million as humanitarian assistance for the Rohingya people).
Referring to her visit to the Rohingya makeshift camps in Cox’s Bazar, Ms. Mordaunt mentioned that she is moved by the scale of influx and assured that the aids from the UK will certainly increase in the coming days. She also mentioned that DFID will also work on side by side with Bangladesh to overcome the massive socio-economic and environmental challenge threatening the host community and the two Upazillas of Cox's Bazar caused by the huge influx. He also reaffirmed the commitment of the UK government in the resolve and is ready to assist Bangladesh to manage the crisis with medium term approach.
The State Minister expressed hope that the UK will continue to mount pressure on Myanmar until the successful return of displaced Rohingya people to their homeland in safety, security and dignity.
