Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, S. M. Mahbubul Alam had several business meetings and interactions with the prominent exporters & importers, industrialists, entrepreneurs, business elites based in Karachi in areas such as RMG, textiles, tanners, pharmaceuticals, jute and jute products, and minerals and senior representatives of International brands such as Primark, H&M, C&M, Target, Indigo, Bestseller United China in Karachi during the last few days in September 2022.

During the meetings and interactions, the Deputy High Commissioner S. M. Mahbubul Alam briefed the leading importers, exporters, industrialists, investors, entrepreneurs, investment bankers, businesspersons and senior representatives of International brands such as Primark, H&M, C&M, Target, Indigo, Bestseller in Karachi on various development initiatives and sectoral achievements in Bangladesh. He highlighted that Bangladesh has become a ‘Role Model’ of socio-economic development in the world. He shared the success stories of socio-economic progress in Bangladesh and cited that Bangladesh has constructed the 6.15-kilometer-long Padma Bridge by her own finance, which is a symbol of her pride and confidence. He also mentioned that Bangladesh is now among the five fastest growing economies in the world, ranking 41st in terms of GDP. He further briefed the dignitaries that Bangladesh has made impressive progress in women empowerment and according to WEF, Bangladesh is ranked 7th in the world in terms of political empowerment of women. The ‘Digital Bangladesh’ initiative has stimulated transformative impacts on socio-economic development, education, disaster risk reduction, and women’s empowerment in Bangladesh. Bangladesh has achieved 100% electricity coverage across the country and has been working for the establishment of 100 Special Economic Zones with foreign investment friendly policies. Bangladesh has already fulfilled all the criteria for graduation to a developing country from the LDC status and the present government of Bangladesh has been striving hard to turn Bangladesh into upper middle-income country by 2031 and a developed country by 2041.
Deputy High Commissioner S. M. Mahbubul Alam during the meetings and interactions elaborated on the potential of trade and commerce and investment in Bangladesh. He emphasized on promoting trade and investment between the two countries. Highlighting the exclusive facilities and incentives Bangladesh offers for foreign investment he invited the potential investors, entrepreneurs and businesspersons from Pakistan to avail the Bangladesh’s offers and enjoy opportunity to further enhance economic cooperation for mutual benefits of the two countries.
During the meetings and interactions, the industrialists, investors, entrepreneurs, exporters and importers, investment bankers, other businesspersons of Pakistan and the regional executives of the international brands such as Primark, H&M, C&M, Indigo, Target, and Bestseller highly appreciated the socio-economic developments in Bangladesh. They also expressed candidly that Bangladesh has achieved remarkable developments in various sectors. They commented that they were encouraged by the impressive success stories of Bangladesh’s socio-economic developments as briefed by the Deputy High Commissioner. They expressed their interests for wider trade and commerce and investment in Bangladesh. Praising highly the hard working, committed, hospitable, patriotic and talented people of Bangladesh and the development model of Bangladesh they also expressed their optimism that they would work for greater trade and investments between the countries.
