1st ever Bilateral Consultations held in Male’ between Bangladesh and Maldives

Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh, Ambassador Masud Bin Momen led a delegation to attend the first-ever bilateral consultations between Bangladesh and Maldives. Foreign Secretary of Maldives Mr. Abdul Ghafoor led the Maldives delegation. 
 
Both the Foreign Secretaries noted the excellent relations that exist between the two countries and committed to further strengthen in the days to come. Ambassador Masud reiterated that Bangladesh attaches high importance to promote relations with neighboring countries following the Foreign Policy of our Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
 
Both the Foreign Secretaries discussed the entire spectrum of our relations and emphasized on deepening cooperation in the sectors including conclusion of few bilateral instruments for further collaboration, trade and connectivity, protection of migrant workers, human resource development, agriculture, fisheries, cultural exchange program , climate change, protection of environment and tourism for enhancing people to people to contact. 
 
Bangladesh Foreign Secretary noted that Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has achieved remarkable success in the socio-economic development in the country. 
 
Bangladesh has developed many institutions for capacity building of youth, medical education, skill development, vocational training, and nurse training. Maldives sides sought support from Bangladesh for recruitment of skilled Human Resource including recruitment of specialized doctors and nurses. They also sought support from Bangladesh for specialized courses in higher education especially in medical education. 
 
Foreign Secretary of Maldives congratulated Bangladesh Government on the graduation from LDC and thanked Bangladesh Foreign Secretary for linking Maldives to the epochal celebrations of the Birth Centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s Independence by hosting the Hon’ble President of Maldives in Dhaka in March 2021. He also expressed gratitude for extending generous support to Maldives on several occasions during the COVID-19 pandemic and thanked Bangladesh Foreign Secretary for arranging a successful visit for the Vice President H.E. Faisal Naseem last week. 
 
Earlier in the day, Ambassador Masud met the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Maldives H.E. Mr. Ahmed Khaleel. During the meeting, both countries reiterated their commitment to work together in regional and multilateral fora especially on issues of climate change and regional security. Maldives assured Bangladesh of extending their support in an early solution of Rohingya crisis through repatriation of Rohingyas to their country of origin. Bangladesh Foreign Secretary briefed him about successful containment of pandemic in Bangladesh. State Minister Mr. Khaleel appreciated Bangladesh’s graduation from LDC and recent socio-economic development under the visionary leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. 
 
Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh arrived at Male’ yesterday for a two-day visit and is expected to meet few Maldivian Ministers and the Vice President. He is also expected to meet some members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community in Male’.
